The Grand Strand is the nickname for the over 60 mile stretch of beautiful beaches and seaside communities on the Atlantic Coast of South Carolina. The Grand Strand starts at the South Carolina state line in the north, including the historic fishing village of Little River, and stretches down along the coastline terminating with Pawleys Island in Georgetown county. Buyers interested in Grand Strand real estate have a plethora of unique communities to choose from. From sleepy seaside towns to sizzling centers of exciting nightlife to outdoorsy family-friendly communities, the Strand has something for everyone.

Originally home to the Waccamaw Native American Tribe, the South Carolina coastline has a storied history including the infamous pirate, Blackbeard, sprawling rice plantations and the harrowing echoes of the Civil War. Many early settlers found the deep forests along the coast too dense and difficult and moved along to more readily-developed areas. Those who managed to tame enough of the forests and marshes to build a life in the area often fell victim to the wrath of hurricanes that damaged their homes or swept them out to sea. In fact, many of the communities along the Strand have piers and buildings that have been rebuilt numerous times after hurricanes and tropical storms have swept them away. In those early days, Grand Strand real estate was not considered quite as desirable as it is today.
